Throughout an extensive career in education, Buckley has taught science and contributed to curriculum development, social studies instruction, student recruitment, science fairs, professional development, and district-level assessments. He has also developed curriculum in areas including African American history, ecology, astronomy, meteorology, and geology. Buckley brings the same curiosity and commitment to understanding the world into his literary work. His writing often combines history, social commentary, human emotion, genealogy, cultural reflection, and narrative poetry.
He describes much of his literary style as 21st-century narrative epic poetry, writing that moves beyond traditional verse to explore people, events, relationships, social conditions, and the forces that shape communities.

Across these works, Buckley examines subjects ranging from history and family lineage to social challenges, compassion, relationships, personal reflection, and the complexities of the human condition. His writing invites readers not simply to observe the world, but to look beneath the surface, consider its history, and think more deeply about the people and circumstances within it.
Beyond writing and education, Buckley enjoys photography, poetry recitation, Gospel music, gardening, botany, and horticulture. Whether cultivating young minds, preserving stories through literature, or tending the fruits of his own garden, his life reflects an enduring commitment to learning, creativity, heritage, and growth.
DeLois Buckley writes to preserve history, examine humanity, inspire thought, and give poetic voice to stories that deserve to be remembered.
